There are big supporters and fierce opponents, but the fact is that U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order this week barring transgender individuals from competing in girls’ and women’s sports events. Other countries are expected to follow.
The question has often been raised – in various countries and by athletes within many, very different sports: are transgender persons not at an advantage when – once they turn from male to female – they compete within the category of the originally opposite sex? There have been numerous discussions about this in the past, but no definite conclusions were ever reached, nor were any final decisions made.
Until now, that is, because in America transgender people are no longer welcome at sporting events for women and girls. In signing the decree, Trump spoke the words that “the war on women’s sports” is over.
