As Challenge Roth presented its full pro field yesterday by announcing Sam Laidlow as the final pro athlete, it immediately evoked a hilarious situation. It was Sam Laidlow who immediately made a joke about one of the other participants, Vincent Luis, but the Frenchman managed to parry that joke in a hilarious way.
Laidlow, who is going through a difficult period and whose chances of actually making it to the start of Challenge Roth remain to be seen, first indicated that he is happy to have a goal. “After a rough start to the year, it’s been hard to look too far ahead—but having something to chase always helps. Challenge Roth is legendary, and if there’s one thing I know, it’s that I race best when I don’t necessarily expect it.”
Laidlow ended his post with a funny joke toward Vincent Luis, who will face his Long Distance debut in Roth. “After all, I can’t let Vincent Luis beat me in his first ever Long Distance.”
Of course Luis can laugh about it and the two-time Short Distance world champion responds briefly but wittily. “I’ll make sure they keep your beer cold at the finish line.”
