Ironman 70.3 Ruidoso New Mexico

Ironman has confirmed it will host its first event in New Mexico, USA, with the launch of IM 70.3 Ruidoso New Mexico. The race will debut on the weekend of July 11–12, 2026, and form part of a new triathlon festival in the village of Ruidoso.

The festival will include three races – an Ironman 70.3, a 5150 event and a sprint distance triathlon. Ironman notes that this will give athletes of all levels the chance to compete across the mountain community. Registration for the new IM 70.3 race opens on April 23, 2026.

According to Ironman, the new event will showcase the Sierra Blanca region, combining clear lake swimming with cycling routes through Hondo and a run course winding through scenic neighbourhoods and Midtown Ruidoso. The 5150 and sprint races will share sections of the same course.

Judy Stowers, Regional Director for IM, said “Ruidoso’s welcoming community and stunning scenery make for the perfect place to bring our popular Ironman 70.3 triathlon and 5150 and Sprint triathlons to create a festival weekend.

“We believe the addition of multiple distances will bring further racing opportunities to a wide variety of athletes.”

The area has a history of hosting endurance events, and Ironman aims to build on this to grow triathlon participation in the region.

Lynn Crawford, Mayor of Ruidoso, said “This prestigious event represents a perfect match for our beautiful mountain community and outdoor recreation culture. We look forward to welcoming athletes and spectators from around the world.”

Eddie Ryan, Manager of Events & Strategic Partnerships for Ruidoso, added that “Beyond the economic impact, which will certainly be significant, I’m most excited about the inspiration these elite athletes will bring to our community.”

The IM 70.3 Ruidoso New Mexico triathlon will offer qualifying slots to the 2027 Ironman 70.3 World Championship.
