Two Kristians: Ironman Mixes Up Blummenfelt and Hogenhaug

It wasn’t the race Kristian Blummenfelt had hoped for, but it was indeed the Norwegian who lined up at the start of Ironman New Zealand last weekend. Despite suffering mechanical issues during the race, Blummenfelt managed to stay in contention for a long time before eventually crossing the line in sixth place.

And just to be clear: that was not Denmark’s Kristian Hogenhaug.

On paper, that seems like a simple distinction. In practice, however, it proved a little more complicated – at least for Ironman. When Blummenfelt crossed the finish line, the results screen above the finish chute displayed a photo of Hogenhaug instead.

Not exactly breaking news, but certainly a noticeable – and amusing – mix-up from the race organization.
