French top triathlete Jeanne Collonge has been seriously injured after being involved in an accident during a bike training session this week. Rumors that the former French Champion was severely hurt had been circulating for some time, but more details have now emerged. Collonge remains in intensive care with a spinal cord injury at the level of the C6 and C7 vertebrae, though what this means for her motor functions remains uncertain for now.

Just a week and a half ago, Collonge finished second at the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon and was preparing for Ironman Kalmar, where she hoped to secure a slot for Kona today (August 15, ed.). The French athlete was completing one of her final training sessions when the accident occurred. Exactly what happened remains unclear; according to ‘La Chaine Du Triathlon,’ Collonge has no memory of the crash. She is conscious but remains in the ICU. The development of her motor functions is being monitored on a day-to-day basis, and an investigation into the accident is underway.
