It remains a crazy month for Hayden Wilde; racing four times at the highest level in as many weeks. After competing in the Supertri Pro Series Final and the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Nice earlier this month, tomorrow brings the T100 French Riviera, before he goes all out at the WTCS Grand Final in Pontevedra next week. Despite this grueling schedule, Wilde is seen as the top favorite tomorrow.
It has already become clear that Wilde, who had a difficult season, found his form just in time. At the Supertri Pro Series Final, he finished a strong second, behind only Matthew Hauser. Last week, he proved remarkably strong at the IM 70.3 World Championship, claiming his first world title over that distance in Nice. It needs little explanation that all eyes will be on Wilde tomorrow.
Just as little explanation is needed to clarify that the victory won’t be handed to Wilde; naturally, a strong field of competitors will be at the start of the T100 French Riviera. Some of the biggest names Wilde will have to take into account are Belgian Jelle Geens, Australian Jacob Birtwhistle, Germans Rico Bogen and Lasse Nygaard Priester, Brit Samuel Dickinson, and Dutchmen Youri Keulen and Menno Koolhaas. A number of these men are in full preparation for the Ironman World Championship on Kona – taking place in the second weekend of October – which will also add an interesting race dynamic.
