After the last-minute postponement of Ironman New Zealand due to lockdown restrictions announced in New Zealand last week, the race has a new date – March 27, 2021.
“Thanks to the unwavering support we have received from Taupō District Council, Tuwharetoa, our suppliers, stakeholders, volunteers and the local Taupō community we are very excited to confirm that Nutri-Grain Iroman New Zealand and Ironman 70.3 New Zealand will be postponed to Saturday 27 March 2021,” organizers wrote on Ironman’s update page.
Some of the events around the race won’t be able to take place including the Women For Tri breakfast, the Ironman Welcome Function and the Awards and World Championship Roll Down ceremonies, but the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 qualifying slots will be handed out online after the event.
Ironman France Nice postponed
After French regional elections were rescheduled to June 13 to 20, 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers were forced to move the original June date of Ironman France Nice to September 12, 2021. The event will now coincide with Ironman 70.3 Nice.
A few weeks ago Ironman received lots of negative comments after CEO Andrew Messick provided a 2021 race update, but the response to the postponement in New Zealand has, for the most part, been overwhelmingly positive. That continued after the announcement of the new date.
