“I don’t know where to start, nor express myself with everything I have on my mind, because it’s not easy.” Earlier this week Switzerland’s Manuel Küng announced his retirement from pro triathlon. It was a difficult decision for the two-time Ironman 70.3 Luxembourg winner: “After a lot of thinking over the last few months I took the decision to end one of the most beautiful and important stages of my life: professional sports. Everybody who accompanied me on this incredible adventure knows that sport has been, and always will be, my big passion, and therefore it will always be part of my life.” On a professional level it’s time for something new, Küng continues to say.
“Sport has given me so much. I believe it made me a better person, and it taught me so much for my future. I was lucky enough to meet so many amazing personalities on this journey. And to my fellow competitors, it was an honor. Thank you to everyone who was part of the last few years, especially to the ones who always have been on my side. Without you, it would not have been possible. It was an amazing ride and I would always repeat it. See you!”
Many fellow pro triathletes responded to Küng’s Instagram post including Andreas Dreitz, who wrote: “It was always so much fun to train with you and hang out! All the best for your new dream and see you soon again.” Andi Boecherer said “It was an honor and pleasure!” Spain’s Pablo Dapena Gonzalez – his former teammate at the BMC Vifit Pro Triathlon Team – commented: “Great adventure my friend. Lucky to meet you! All the best for your new step.”
