Slovenia’s Monika Bartol and Great Britain’s Ben Cumberland took the junior titles at today’s World Triathlon Duathlon Championships Aviles. The event in the Asturias province of Spain included a two-lap 5.1 km run, a three-lap 20 km bike and finished with a two-lap 5.2 km run.https://www.triathlon.org/results/result/2021_world_triathlon_duathlon_championships_aviles/500501
Bartol led the way through the first run, finishing in 18:53 alongside Poland’s Maja Wasik with Italy’s Eleonora Demarchi a second behind. Bartol then managed to open up a gap of almost a minute on the Pole and Italian on the bike before holding them off on the run to take a 50-second win in 58:33. Wasik crossed the line in 59:23 while Demarchi rounded out the podium in 59:59.

Cumberland was also the quickest through the first run, but had lots of company starting out on the bike and off the bike before running away from the rest of the field to take the title in 50:23. Belgium’s Wout Ghelens would take second in 50:35 with another Belgian, Simon Martin, rounding out the podium in 50:42.
