Chalk up another new event for Ironman – this one in Mexico. Ironman 70.3 Acapulco Riviera Diamante is the latest Ironman event to be added to the upcoming race season after the lethargic 2020 season. The new race will bolster the 123 half distance events on the Ironman schedule in 2021.

“Acapulco is known as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Latin America, the city has been attracting tourists from around the world to the Pacific coastline of Mexico since the 1940’s,” according to a release from Ironman. “Acapulco is known for its stunning beaches, incredible cuisine, Latin culture, and relaxed atmosphere.”

Acapulco will be the fourth city in the country to host a 70.3 event. It will be a busy race season for Mexico as the country will host five Ironman events in 2021.

The inaugural event is set to take place on May 23, 2021 and offers a picturesque course that goes through a variety of Pacific-coast beach towns.

The race offers 40 age group qualifying slots for the 2021 Ironman 70.3 World Championships in St. George, Utah.

Earlier today Ironman also announced a new race in Taiwan.
