Marten van Riel pushes hard on the bike and leads “De Container Cup” on Belgian TV

We don’t know how many watts he pushed, but it sure looked impressive. Super League Triathlon Arena Games champion Marten van Riel recently shared a video of himself during a really tough bike ride, and asked his fans a question: “10 x 15 seconds sprints. How many watts do you think I reached?” There was quite a bit of variety in the answers – one response figured Van Riel pushed about 242 watts, while another Instagram user thinks the Belgian managed to push 5,000 watts. We’re not buying either of these answers, but, unfortunately, Van Riel hasn’t shared his data yet. Given his latest results – the win of the SLT Arena Games London, the SLT Arena Games Rotterdam, and the fact that he’s leading in a Belgian TV show that has the country’s top athletes from a variety of sports battle each other in seven different events – the power output was probably high.

Last night Van Riel was seen on Belgian TV as he took part in “De Container Cup.” The sport stars involved competed over 1,500 meters of running, monkey bars, golf, 1,000 meters of rowing, shooting, bench press, and 3,000 meters of cycling. Van Riel’s running and cycling background means he already excels in two of the seven disciplines. The Belgian proved he’s in top shape as he’s currently in the lead. The six other athletes have one week to try and pass Van Riel in the overall ranking. On the bike Van Riel put together an especially impressive performance, riding faster than some of the world’s best cyclists: Remco Evenepoel, Victor Campenaerts, Oliver Naesen and Yves Lampaert.
