Life Time, the owners of the famous New York City Triathlon, have opened up a lottery for the race which is scheduled to run on July 11, 2021, “pending evolving health guidelines and final City approval.”

Registration for the lottery is open until April 28 at 11:59 pm EST, with winners announced on May 5. Athletes who deferred their 2020 registration after last year’s race was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic were given early access to this year’s race. Typically the race has over 3,000 entrants.

You can find out more about the event and the lottery here.

The course could feature some changes this year, but traditionally the Olympic-distance event includes a 1.5 km swim in the Hudson River, a 40 km bike on the Westside Highway and a 10 km run in Central Park, where the race finishes. There is a pro prize purse of US$5,000, $1,500 and $1,000 for the top three men and women.

The race has been going for two decades, but the last time the race actually went off was in 2018. The 19th edition of the race was supposed to happen in 2019, but organizers had to cancel the race due to a heat wave in the city.
