It’s a surprise to see her name on the start list of the World Triathlon Championship Series Leeds. On Jun. 6 Lucy Charles will compete at the Olympic-distance event in her home country. The British athlete, who is known as one of the best triathletes in Long Distance racing – she won Challenge Roth 2019 and finished second at the Ironman World Championship in 2017, 2018 and 2019 – appeared on the start line of another short-distance race earlier this year, the Super League Triathlon Arena Games in London.

And that was not the only special event that she signed up for in 2021, because last April we also saw Lucy Charles swim at the British swimming trials 1,500 meters. In triathlon three female British triathletes have been named to the Olympic team – Jessica Learmonth, Georgia Taylor-Brown and Vicky Holland – so it seems Tokyo is not what Charles has on her mind. Given her strong swim and bike skills, she has an excellent chance at a top ranking in short-distance racing too, and she will for sure have an influence on the dynamics of the race in Leeds.
