A very generous and special offer by Lionel Sanders: the Canadian pro triathlete has offered to pay for all the travel costs if Jan Frodeno joins him at the start line of Ironman Coeur D’Alene (Jun. 27, 2021). “No one has inspired me more or pushed me more to become a better athlete than him,” Sanders wrote below a throwback photo to the two racing toe-to-toe at Ironman 70.3 Oceanside in 2015.

“Jan, I hear you’re looking for a challenge,” he continues. “I’m willing to pay for your flight, hotel, rental car and meals if you come race me at Ironman Coeur D’Alene. I know the start list is already out, but something tells me they’ll allow a late entry from the G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time).”

It’s not that long ago that we saw these two athletes race each other. At Challenge Miami they each finished on the podium, with Frodeno taking the win and and Sanders next to him on second place. Sanders didn’t get to come even close to Frodeno though, because the German was on fire in all three legs of the race.
