“Do you want to know something crazy?”, two time Ironman 70.3 World Champion Gustav Iden started his Instagram post. What’s so crazy? That Iden never lost a race when he was wearing his special and lucky hat, he says. Iden wore a cap from a Taiwanese temple when he won his first Ironman 70.3 World Championship, and it went completely viral in Taiwan. Iden even visited Taiwan to meet all his fans. It turns out the hat didn’t just gain him a giant Taiwanese fan base, it may have also helped him win. Although, Iden trusts more in his own confidence.

“I have used the Taiwanese temple hat on six races over the last two years. I have won every single one of them. The ones I didn’t win, I didn’t wear the hat. I don’t really believe in luck. I believe in confidence. Where the confidence is coming from doesn’t really matter to me.”
