Strava introduces a new feature within maps: “Points of Interest”. With this new feature, Strava users can see what kind of “stops” they can find on the way, as for instance supermarkets to buy a drink, gas stations to buy some energy bars, but also hotspots for running, popular climbs and good photo spots.
The new feature is available to all Strava users, and therefor not solely for subscribers. When you plan your route in Strava, different “Points of Interest” will pop up along your route.
Strava designed this new feature in collaboration with Open Street Maps, which is a free geographical database. By adding their database to Strava’s heatmaps of 95 million users, they were able to identify different hotspots.
