Ironman just announced to extend their offering in Asia and welcome a new race to their calendar: Ironman 70.3 Puerto Princesa in the Philippines. The event, taking place in the capital city of the Palawan province, will first take place on Nov. 13, 2022.
“The city has the largest forest cover in the Philippines, and one of the healthiest coral reefs, making Puerto Princesa Asia’s ecological paradise destination of choice – and a great place for triathlon racing”, Ironman says about the race, while also mentioning the fact that Puerto Princesa is home to the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, which is one of the ‘new’ seven wonders of nature and UNESCO World Heritage.
“Athletes can look forward to racing in one of Philippines’ greenest cities, while taking in the views of the bay and even spot long-nosed dolphins, turtles, and rays. Puerto Princesa is a tourist city, with many beach resorts and seafood restaurants to please both athlete and supporter”, Ironman continues in a press release.
The race will consist of a 1900-meters sea swim, starting at the Puerto Princesa Bay Walk Park, a 90-km three-loop bike course that takes athletes from the south Puerto Princesa to the Iwahig Bridge. During the half-marathon, athletes will pass run along the bay and through the city center.
