The date for the next edition of the Ironman African Championship and the Ironman 70.3 Nelson Mandela Bay is set to Mar. 5, 2023. That’s a bit earlier than usual, and that’s not the only thing that’s different, because the organization decided to return to their original start location: Hobie Beach. It seems like a few cancelled swim starts, and bad weather, forced the organization to seek better race conditions.

“We are excited to announce the changes to the 2023 Ironman African Championship and Ironman 70.3 Nelson Mandela Bay”, Keith Bowler, Regional Managing Director of Ironman South Africa, states. “The race date is slightly earlier than normal, but we feel this is a more suitable date as it will provide athletes with the best race experience. We’re also really pleased to confirm that the swim and transition area will move back to where it all first began for Ironman South Africa, in Hobie Beach.”
