Jan Frodeno in tears: the GOAT withdraws from Challenge Roth

It’s heartbreaking to see… He was doing so well, yet Jan Frodeno was forced to quit his race at Challenge Roth. After a few kilometers of running, the GOAT had to withdraw from the race due to an Achilles injury. It’s the same injury that kept Frodeno from participating in the Ironman World Championship in St. George. While Frodeno wasn’t completely sure if he would be fit enough, it seemed like things were heading into the right direction. Today, it turned out, that’s not yet the case.

Together with Denmark’s Magnus Ditlev, who broke the bike course record by riding 4:01:56 hours, Frodeno got off the bike in a leading position. After a mess transition, as Frodeno’s transition bag had no sticker with his bib number on it, the German was first to hit the run course. After approximately three km, Frodeno ended up on the side of the road, hugging his team with tears in his eyes.

It means that Ditlev is currently leading the race at Challenge Roth.
