And just as I thought I’ve got the momentum this season after five good races in a row, there comes one bad day and makes you question everything…” Frederic Funk didn’t have his day yesterday at the PTO US Open in Dallas. The German athlete, that is usually considered one of the race favorites, felt bad right from the gun. But that doesn’t mean that all the training he did isn’t working out. “The quote ‘never judge your life because of one bad day’, from Sebastian Kienle, really helps right now. So head up, recover – especially mentally – and all in for the last training block and race of the season.” In six weeks time, Funk will be racing the Ironman 70.3 World Championship.
“About the race”, he looks back. “I felt completely empty and powerless right from the start. Was hopeful the legs will come around on the bike, but the power just dropped lap by lap and by the end of lap three I could barely push 200 watts, so decided to go out of the race to not make anything worse in case of an infection”, Funk explains while congratulating the podium finishers.
