In Bilbao, Spain, Belgium’s Sebastien Carabin and Germany’s Anna-Lena Theisen have just crowned themselves European Champions Cross Duathlon. Both athletes did so with a significant lead over their pursuers.

Anna-Lena Theisen won the race in a time of 2:08:01, staying quite far ahead of France’s Morgane Riou and Dutch Noor Dekker. Riou finished in a time of 2:11:11 and Dekker in a time of 2:11:22. Theisen set the fastest time in both runs and the bike as well.

Carabin did not, as he did lose some time during the first run, especially on France’s Timothée Augeul (eventually finishing sixth), but on the bike Carabin outran everyone and was minutes faster than his competition. During the final run he was again the fastest athlete and in the end his 1:42:47 finishing time was more than enough for the European title. Italian Alessandro Saravalle was second in 1:45:26 and Belgian Nicolas de Smet was third in 1:46:56.
