With the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the United Kingdom has been plunged into mourning. In respect to the queen, some events have been cancelled. That gives uncertainty for Sunday’s Ironman Wales too. So far, the organization hasn’t made a decision. According to several media, it’s up to an organization to decide whether they will let an event take place.

In a press release, Ironman Wales stated the following: “It is with deep sadness that we learn of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We join the world in sending our condolences to The Royal Family, and know that the news of this death will be felt widely amongst our athletes, volunteers, partners, employees, and the wider community. With Ironkids and Ironman Wales due to take place this weekend, we understand participants will be looking for an update on what this news means for both events. We are awaiting further information from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and National Government as it relates to sporting events. We will provide any updates to Ironman athletes and Ironkids parents and guardians as soon as possible.”
