He may have been far down the field after the swim, Swiss’ Adrien Briffod set things straight on the bike and during the run. Briffod ended up taking the day and outracing two Frenchmen: Yanis Seguin and Theo Texereau, who took second and third respectively, only a handful of seconds behind Briffod.

It wasn’t the Swiss Briffod, but fellow Swiss Fabian Meeusen who was first out of the water. On the contrary, Briffod was far behind at this point; outside the top 40 and dealing with a 42-second deficit. Cycling 27:01 minutes over 20 km, Briffod started to set things straight while in the saddle, but it was the run that he used to really finish it off strong.

Briffod ran the fastest 5000 meters: 14:48 minutes. Seguin and Texereau ran only a few seconds slower, but therefor weren’t able to keep up with Briffod. Briffod broke the tape after 53:01 minutes, while Seguin and Texereau ran to second and third.
