Ironman 70.3 Staffordshire features an all-British podium with James Teagle stepping up onto the top step of the podium. Teagle won the race in 3:53:54.

After the swim, Teagle still had a 1:14 minute deficit to make up on Thomas Davis, who was the fastest swimmer of the day thanks to a 22:47 swim time. Davis did not come out of the water alone by the way, as he was joined by Joshua Lewis.

It was then Lewis who opened the throttle full on the bike and actually rode away from Davis immediately, who in turn saw Teagle join him. Still, the two chasers lost a lot of time on Lewis, who saw his lead grow to a maximum of 3:30 minutes. In the closing stages, Davis dropped even further away but Teagle actually got a little closer to the leader. Once in T2, Teagle was 2:45 minutes behind Lewis.

During the run, Lewis’ lead disappeared very quickly and by the halfway point Teagle had joined him and not much later he actually took over the lead in the race. In the closing stages, he only saw his lead grow, eventually winning in a time of 3:53:54. Lewis was second in 3:56:31 and Benjamin Goodfellow complemented the podium in a time of 3:58:31.
