Spain’s David Castro Fajardo and Luxembourg’s Jeanne Lehair crowned themselves European OD Champions today. Both athletes had to battle until the very last meters, but eventually won the titles in Madrid. Due to bad water quality the races were changed into a duathlon.
So in the men’s race, it was Fajardo who took the race to himself in a time of 1:48:13. This kept him four seconds ahead of Jonathan Brownlee; the Briton thus took the silver. The bronze was ready for Swiss Adrien Briffod, who finished in a time of 1:48:27.
In the women’s race, too, the differences were small and in this race, too, there was a fight for victory until the last meters. So in the end, Lehair was the winner: the athlete from Luxembourg finished after 1:59:52. She was thus seven seconds ahead of Germany’s Lisa Tertsch (1:59:59) and eighteen seconds ahead of the also German Tanja Schrär (2:00:10).
