In a race that was decided in both the men’s and women’s runs, Samuele Angelini (ITA) and Tanja Neubert (GER) just won the Europe Triathlon Cup in Kitzbühel, Austria. In both races, the margins were pretty small.
Neubert won the race in a time of 56:48, staying just ahead of her compatriot Selina Klamt, who finished second in 56:52. Spain’s Maria Casals Mojica followed quickly behind the two fastest women of the day: she finished third in 57:05. Neubert owed her victory mainly to her five kilometers: with a time of 17:11 minutes, she was the fastest runner of the day.
The men’s winner, Samuele Angelini, was also the fastest runner: with a time of 14:56 minutes, he was the only athlete to dive under 15 minutes on the final five kilometers. In the end, he won the race in a time of 50:45, just enough to stay ahead of German Jannik Schaufler (50:49). Spaniard Esteban Basanta Fouz finished third in 50:53.
