Surprise winner Ironman Texas – Tomas Rodriguez Hernandez – provisionally suspended after positive doping test

He was the surprising winner of Ironman Texas in April for many – and probably even for everyone – Mexican Tomas Rodriguez Hernandez surprised everyone by winning the race in a lightning-fast time of 7:42:38. Now, however, a doping test has revealed that the Mexican had clomiphene in his body, which is on the list of banned substances. The athlete has been provisionally and immediately suspended.

The test in question was already taken around the race. The A sample was positive and at Rodriguez Hernandez’s request a B sample was then looked at. However, that second test showed the exact same result and was thus a confirmation of the use of doping.

At Ironman Texas, which was thus won by the Mexican, Patrick Lange finished second and Clément Mignon third.
