World Triathlon Multisport Championships: seven countries compete for 2×2 Mixed Relay world title, France wins

For Elite athletes, the second day of competition at the World Triathlon Multisport Championships in Townsville focused on the still young 2×2 Mixed Relay format, which was organized for only the third time. Whereas last year 20 teams competed, this time only seven countries did. France won the world title.

Not surprisingly, the race attracted few spectators, even though the format is quite spectacular: teams consist of one man and one woman and both athletes complete an ultra-short triathlon twice – taking turns. France ultimately proved the strongest, as they crossed the finish line after 1:05:34 and thus crowned themselves world champions. After a second-place finish last year – defending champion Italy was not participating this time – that was the best possible step up for France. Great Britain finished second in 1:06:37 and Japan third in 1:07:34.
