While the Commonwealth Games are very populair worldwide, there has been quite a stir among fans of the multisport event. While the 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place in Glasglow, there will be no triathlon anymore and cycling has also been removed from the schedule.
The Commonwealth Games is a quadrennial international multisport event among athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations, which consists mostly, but not exclusively, of territories of the former British Empire. Approximately four to five thousand athletes participate every four years, making the Commonwealth Games the second largest sporting event in the world after the Summer Olympics. In two years, however, triathletes and cyclists will be absent.
Triathlon and cycling are cancelled because the organization cannot manage to close enough (major) roads in and around Glasgow. At the previous edition – Birmingham, 2022 – Alex Yee and Flora Duffy won the triathlon.
