It was perhaps the most interesting moment of the Ironman World Championship pro press conference earlier today: Patrick Lange publicly calling for the men’s and women’s IM World Championships to race at the same time again, and all at Kona. In doing so, Lange is thus breaking a lance for many who believe that the men’s and women’s IM World Championships should not be separate and should not rotate between different venues.
Lange, as a two-time Ironman world champion and seen as a serious candidate to win again this year, did not shy away from seeking a bit of controversy. When he dropped his statement, there was considerable silence in the room for a moment, before loud applause followed.
