It is a move as remarkable as it is interesting: Alex Yee will compete in the London Marathon next year. In doing so, the reigning Olympic Triathlon Champion is making the switch to a long distance for the first time, strikingly choosing not triathlon, but running.
Yee, who is known as a rock-solid runner and also has a history in athletics, has won major triathlons at the highest level in recent years, but always over the short distance. In total, he has already won four Olympic medals, including thus individual gold in Paris and bronze for the Mixed Team Relay in Paris.
As a child, he participated in the Mini London Marathon five times. “”Committing to the London Marathon for me was a no-brainer. It is an event that has given me so many memories,” said the five-time Mini London Marathon finisher.
“Taking part in a full marathon has always been an itch I’ve wanted to scratch and there isn’t any another place than London that I would want to start that journey.”
