In the world of sports – whether triathlons, running races or other sports – things are getting faster and faster. That became clear again this weekend when Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo pulverized the World Record half marathon, posting 56:41 in Barcelona.

With that time, Kiplimo, who also previously held the world record over the half marathon distance but lost it to Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha, was a whopping 49 seconds faster than the previous World Record. At the same time, Kiplimo broke two magic barriers at once: the 57:30 and 57:00 long thought impossible were broken with his new world record. In any case, the weather conditions certainly helped; it was thirteen degrees in Barcelona and there was virtually no wind. With his World Record, Kiplimo was good for an average kilometer pace of 2:41 minutes.
