It’s a pretty well-known triathlon and certainly popular among athletes from all over Europe, but in six weeks there will be no racing in Tenerife as the organization of the Ocean Lava Triathlon has announced that the race will not take place on March 23. Athletes who were registered for the race received a message this week indicating that the race cannot take place due to ‘works affecting the course’.
Those road works, organizers indicated, would be ‘force majeur’. Logically, many triathletes are upset that the decision is being made so late, when travel and accommodation had long been booked. They will be refunded the money for their race registration, however, or allowed to carry over their participation to next year.
