Bill James is to stand down as Chair of the Board of British Triathlon this summer after five years in the role. The search is now underway to find a new Chair.
Bill has played a key leadership role in both Triathlon England and British Triathlon since 2012 when he first joined the Triathlon England Board. He went on to become Chair of Triathlon England where he also joined the British Triathlon Board in December 2014. Bill was appointed Chair of the British Triathlon Board in March 2020.
In his time as Chair, Bill has overseen two highly successful Olympic and Paralympic Games, GB-hosted World Triathlon events including Championship events in Leeds and Sunderland and three years of the Para Series events in Swansea. During his tenure, British Triathlon also launched its sustainability strategy, Endurance 2040+ and successful participation programmes including Swim Bike Run and Active Skills for Life. He also helped steer the organisation through the Covid pandemic as it and sport recovered from its impact and has contributed more broadly at an international level to triathlon as well as in his role on the British Olympic Association.
Bill says: “Being Chair of British Triathlon has been a huge honour but now, as we start a new Olympic and Paralympic cycle, it is time for me to pass this privilege on to someone else. I leave British Triathlon in a strong position and well-placed to continue to be one of the leading triathlon and para-triathlon nations in the world”.
Ruth Daniels, Chief Executive of British Triathlon, adds: “It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Bill and I am hugely grateful for his strong leadership and passion for our sport that has been instrumental to our continued growth and standing both nationally and internationally. I am looking forward to ensuring there is a smooth transition from Bill to a new Chair in the coming months.”
