Dorian Coninx delivered a masterclass performance to take victory at the WTCS event in Karlovy Vary. The French triathlete proved unstoppable on the demanding Czech course, securing a crucial win ahead of the season finale.
Known as one of the most demanding stops on the WTCS-circuit – featuring a steep, technical, and physically draining bike leg – Karlovy Vary tested the field from the opening dive. Coninx positioned himself at the front early on, staying attentive through the swim and seamlessly navigating the challenging bike course.
What stood out most was the race dynamic: a small group managed a rare bike breakaway. Tjebbe Kaindl, Léo Bergère, Mark Devay, and Coninx joined forces on the bike course and built a massive lead over the chasing pack. Towards the final kilometers of the bike segment, Kaindl launched an attack, pulling 14 seconds clear of his fellow leaders.
The Run and Convincing Finish
By the time the main chase pack entered T2, they trailed by over two minutes. On the run course, Kaindl held the lead for a significant stretch. While Bergère and Devay faded, Coninx managed to bridge the gap around the midpoint. Once back in front, the Frenchman seized control of the race to lock in the top spot.
Coninx did win the race in 1:50:50. Alex Yee finished second in 1:51:00 and Kaindl finished third in 1:51:07.
