While just about the entire athletics world was watching the London marathon, many eyes were also on Olympic Triathlon Champion Alex Yee: the Brit made his marathon debut today and hoped to do so with a time under 2:10. That fell just short, but Yee still recorded a stunning time of 2:11:08.

Yee had no longer distance experience whatsoever, so the 42.2 kilometers was totally new for him. For a long time the Briton was on track to go sub 2:10 – halfway through he passed in 1:04:19 – but after 25 kilometers the pace dropped a bit and after 30 kilometers it became really tough for Yee.

Still, Yee persevered and eventually finished in 2:11:08, placing fourteenth overall. The race was won by Kenyan Sebastian Sawe (2:02:27).
