Within the world of athletics, the Diamond League is arguably the most prestigious competition circuit – second only to the Olympic Games – and later this year, two Olympic triathlon champions will take action there. On July 10th in Monaco, Alex Yee will compete in the 5,000 meters, while Cassandre Beaugrand will take on the 3,000 meters.

The Diamond League always features the best athletes in the world, and typically, these are logically the true specialists who focus entirely on a specific event. On Friday evening, July 10, 2026, two triathletes will suddenly join the fray, but in Yee and Beaugrand, two absolute running powerhouses are stepping up.

Yee, always known for his incredibly strong running leg, made his debut at the London Marathon last year with a fourteenth-place finish, before clocking a 2:06:38 in Valencia at the end of that same year to become the second-fastest British man in history over the classic distance. In Monaco, he will race a shorter distance, taking to the track for the 5,000 meters. What this participation means for his triathlon plans this year is not yet known. Yee also ran a 5,000-meter race during a Diamond League event back in 2019, recording a time of 13:29 minutes.

Beaugrand has also enjoyed a highly successful period with numerous running achievements. This year alone, she broke the French records for both the 10-kilometer road race and the 5,000 meters on the track. Just like Yee she has also raced very few triathlons this year, but Beaugrand did claim victory in the only race she started: WTCS Alghero. In Monaco, Beaugrand will compete in the 3,000 meters. As with Yee, it remains unclear what her Diamond League appearance will mean for her triathlon calendar.

The Monaco Diamond League will be held at the Stade Louis II stadium.
