He could certainly use a confidence boost; Pieter Heemeryck has been through a difficult period, and major sporting successes have eluded him for some time. Partly for this reason, the elite Belgian athlete decided to take a step back this weekend to compete in a more local event on home soil: the Circuit Triathlon in Zolder, where he immediately claimed victory.

It was a race where he could rely entirely on routine. For a professional athlete accustomed to competing at the highest international level, this local race in his home country was a welcome change of pace to regain his groove. While the Circuit Triathlon was held at the Terlamen race circuit, which also hosted Formula 1 races in the past, this automatically provided a unique racing experience.

Heemeryck was not the first to emerge from the water in Zolder; that honor went to Belgian Military triathlon champion Julian Nicolaes. However, Heemeryck stayed within striking distance and quickly asserted his dominance during the 40-kilometer bike leg. By pulling away from Nicolaes to build a 2:40-minute lead, the final run became a routine formality for Heemeryck. He ultimately secured a solid victory with a time of 1:45:57. Nicolaes finished second, 2:38 minutes behind, while Alexander Wouters took the bronze.
