First ‘world record’ thanks to much-discussed Enhanced Games: fastest swim time ever by a doper

When the Enhanced Games were announced early last year – in which a level playing field should be created by allowing doping – the sports world was logically completely upside down. While the first edition of the tournament will not take place until next year, the first ‘world record’ by a doper is already a reality. Greek swimmer Kristian Golomeev swam the fastest time ever in the 50-meter freestyle, earning one million dollars.

Of course, the world record – 20.89 seconds and thus just faster than the official world record held by Cesar Cielo (20.91) since 2009 – is not recognized anywhere. Golomeev started on performance-enhancing drugs a month before his attempt and also swam with a so-called ‘supersuit’; a swimsuit banned by all swimming federations.

Golomeev’s record, thus not recognized anywhere, was made world famous during the official presentation of the Enhanced Games. That project was created by Australian businessman Aron D’Souza, who wants to organize multiple sports competitions in which athletes do not have to comply with WADA doping rules. The project is partly funded by a fund run by Donald Trump JR and billionaire Peter Thiel. The first edition of the Enhanced Games will take place next year in Las Vegas.
