New insights from Strava show that finishers at this year’s TCS London Marathon were, on average, slower than in 2024 – with over half of runners experiencing a significant slowdown in the second half of the race.
The 2025 London Marathon took place on Sunday, April 27, and continues to be one of the world’s most tracked mass participation events on Strava.
According to Strava, average finish times at this year’s event declined across both genders and all age brackets.

Key findings from the event data uploaded to Strava include:
- More than 50% of finishers recorded a 10% slowdown or more in the second half of the marathon
- The fastest kilometre of the race was the 5th, with an average pace of 5:20min/km
- Women finished more than ten minutes slower on average than in 2024
- The average men’s finish time rose to over 4 hours this year, compared to 3:53 in 2024
- Millennials and Gen X saw the biggest year-on-year decline, with finish times down by 12 minutes
- Gen Z and Boomers each saw an average drop of 10 minutes
