Norwegian powerhouse Kristian Grue produced a dominant performance to defend his men’s title at the iconic Norseman Xtreme Triathlon, crossing the finish line on the rugged summit of Gaustatoppen to secure back-to-back victories in one of the world’s most brutal extreme endurance races.

Grue Commands the Field to Retain His Crown

Starting with the legendary 3.8 km fjord swim jump from a ferry into the freezing waters of Eidfjord, Kristian Grue demonstrated his mastery of the harsh Norwegian terrain from start to finish. After positioning himself strongly out of the water, Grue delivered a decisive performance on the demanding 180 km bike course – navigating steep mountain passes and unpredictable mountain weather to build a strong foundation for his victory.

Entering the brutal marathon run – which finishes with the infamous “Zombie Hill” climb up to Gaustatoppen at nearly 1,880 meters above sea level – Grue maintained a relentless pace. He held off all challengers to cross the line first once again, successfully defending his title and proving why he remains the king of Norseman.

A Fierce Battle for the Podium

While Grue forged ahead to secure the top step, an equally compelling battle unfolded behind him for the remaining podium positions. The chasing pack pushed through extreme physical fatigue, always challenging mountain weather and punishing elevation shifts across the 226-kilometer course.

Title defender Grue was supreme, winning the race in a time of 9:53:48. None other than two-time Olympic Champion Alistair Brownlee was also at the start, and the Brit went home with a second-place finish right off the bat; he crossed the rocky finish line after 10:18:21. With that, Brownlee stayed just ahead of Hans Christian Tungesvik; the Norwegian previously won the Norseman in 2019, but took third place this time in 10:18:57.
