Challenge Gran Canaria is undergoing significant structural changes for its 2027 edition, expanding the event to a two-day schedule and transitioning to a T100 race format as part of a new partnership between Challenge Family and the PTO.

Dedicated Race Days for Age Groupers and Pros

The event will split its fields across the weekend of April 17–18, 2027, granting Age Group and professional athletes separate racing slots:

  • Saturday, April 17: Dedicated exclusively to Age Group racing. The separated format aims to reduce course congestion and provide amateur athletes with more clean air and space on the Gran Canaria course.
  • Sunday, April 18: Reserved entirely for the elite professional fields, allowing age group participants to spectate the professional races the day after competing.

Shift to T100 Format

Alongside the schedule expansion, the event is moving away from the traditional Middle Distance format. In collaboration with the PTO, the 2027 race will feature a 100km distance (2km swim, 80km bike, and 18km run). Despite the distance change, the course will continue to feature Gran Canaria’s volcanic coastline and the established Anfi del Mar venue setup.
