Ironman is expanding its event schedule in Europe with two new events – Ironman 70.3 Sandnes in Norway and Ironman 70.3 Vouiliagmeni in Greece.

The new event in Norway will be held on July 3, 2022 “at the gateway of the Fjords of Norway. According to Ironman, “The region is known for deep mystic fjords, spectacular waterfalls, picturesque city centers, long sandy beaches and world famous monuments of Viking heritage.” Athletes will swim in the Gandsfjord, the bike along the coast of the North Sea before finishing with a run in the city centre of Sandnes.

“We are excited to finally bring the IRONMAN brand back to Norway after a few years’ absence.’’ said Bjarte Mork Eikås, race director of Ironman 70.3 Sandnes. “The host city of Sandnes has long-standing traditions of hosting large sporting events. The race will bring the athletes close to the unique nature of the southwestern coastline of Norway, while still presenting a challenging flat and fast course to the athletes.”

Set for Oct. 23, 2022, Ironman 70.3 Vouiliagmeni “will enjoy the mild weather of the Athenian Fall, in the scenic area of the Athens Riviera.” Vouiliagmeni is a seaside town located 20 km from Athens. The race will begin with a 1.9 km, single-loop swim at the Vouiliagmeni-Varkiza beach. The two-loop 90 km bike course follows the coast towards “the emblematic Ancient Temple of Poseidon passing through traditional fishing villages and breath-taking cliffs,” according to a press release from Ironman. The day finishes with a 21.1 km run that also follows the coastline.

Both races will offer qualifying slots for the 2023 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Lahti, Finland.
