1897… nobody had heard of a mobile phone, Netflix wasn’t a term and social media didn’t exist either. If you had asked someone what the world would be like in 2022, the answer would probably have been far from reality. Still, cycling magazine The Wheel and Cycling Trade showed to have a pretty clear picture of what the future would be like. A cartoon that was published in the magazine in 1897 shows an image that could have been drawn today.
In the cartoon, you can see a man cycling on an indoor bike while watching something through virtual reality glasses. Even though, virtual reality was not a thing then. Cycling journalist David Guénel shared a photo of the cartoon on Twitter.
