It was an exciting battle between four ladies at the World Championship Duathlon in Targu Mures, Romania. Venezuela’s Joselyn Daniely Brea Abreu ended up claiming the victory, as she outran Germany’s Celine Kaiser and Japan’s Ai Ueda, who took second and third only a few seconds later.
Running 34:07 minutes over 10 kilometers, a group of six athletes got to hop on their bikes in a leading position, among them: Ueda and Daniely Brea Abreu. The fastest chase group was about 50 seconds behind at this point, but on the bike they quickly started to close the gap.
About halfway through the bike part, all groups merged, which created a lead pack of fourteen athletes. That meant it all came down to the run. After a quick transition, Ueda, Daniely Brea Abreu, Priarione and Kaiser showed that they hadn’t yet burned all their matches. The four battled on the final 5K run, but once the finish line came into sight it was clear that there was no touching Daniely Brea Abreu, who still look fresh and fast. The Venezuelian broke the tape and shared the podium with Kaiser and Ueda.
