In 1:57:08 hour, France’s Audrey Merle raced to gold at the World Triathlon Cup Tongyeong, Korea. She shared the podium with Germany’s Annika Koch (+0:23) and France’s Mathilde Gautier (+0:30).
Merle already found herself a good spot during the swim part. Swimming 19:27 minutes, she was seventh out of the water and only seven seconds behind the fastest swimmer of the day: that was Gautier. On the bike, a lead group of approximately ten athletes took shape; all eventual podium finishers were part of that group.
Running 35:15 minutes on the 10K, Merle managed to take the lead during the run part. There was no stopping this French athlete, who ended up crossing the finish line with quite a buffer – 23 seconds – to the second-place finisher: Koch. Gautier ended up rounding the podium.
