The always-strong Powerman Alsdorf – this year though with fewer participants than usual, probably because the World Championships Duathlon took place on Ibiza on the same weekend – was won by Dane Simon Jorn Hansen and German Maja Betz. Both athletes won the race by minutes.
Powerman Alsdorf was about 10 kilometers of running, 60 kilometers of biking and another 10 kilometers of running. On the first run, a small group of men stayed together, but on the bike Hansen immediately made up the difference, allowing him to start the final run with a lead. There he was the only athlete to dip under 32 minutes once again, thus securing the victory: he won the race in 2:23:30. Belgian Sander Heemeryck was second in 2:26:57 and German Simon Huckestein was third in 2:27:07.
Among the women, six athletes were at the start and it was Maja Betz who won the race in 2:42:34. Already during the first run she grabbed a lead by notching 35:14 minutes, while the other ladies ran just under or even above 37 minutes. On the bike Betz maintained her lead and during the last run she was again minutes faster than all her competitors. The silver in the end was for German Merle Brunnée (2:47:21) and the bronze for German Hannah Arlom (2:47:54).
