Winning a World Triathlon Cup at home soil: David Cantero Del Campo just fulfilled a dream by winning the World Triathlon Cup Valencia. After an exciting duel and final sprint with German Lasse Nygaard Priester, the Spaniard proved too strong to beat.
It was a race in which everything happened, but in which the real decision actually fell during the run. During the swim there were already quite a few differences, but on the bike a large group finally came together. Until the last kilometers, when Zsombor Dévay and Connor Bentley took off. With a lead of a few seconds, they eventually started their 10km run.
During that run, however, another leading group of seven quickly formed. Thus, strongest of that leading group were Cantero Del Campo and Nygaard Priest. Side by side they headed toward the finish line, only to eventually need a final sprint to decide the battle. Cantero Del Campo won the race in 1:41:10 and Nygaard Priester finished second only one second later. Italian Michele Sarzilla finished third in 1:41:26.
