You actually have to see it to believe it, because the three races Cameron Wurf combined last week seem like an almost impossible combo on paper: the Amstel Gold Race, the Flèche Wallonne and then Ironman South Africa.
Wurf didn’t make it to the finish line at both the Amstel Gold Race and Flèche Wallonne, but the fact that he exited early doesn’t mean he didn’t do an awful lot of heavy work for his team in the kilometers before that. Additionally, the Flèche Wallonne was ridden in leaden weather conditions, and the cold wind and rain made that race hard to digest.
While the Flèche Wallonne was held just a few days after the Amstel Gold Race, Wurf was back at the start of Ironman South Africa just a few days later. In the end, he finished third there, finishing off a nice week of racing with a podium spot.
