Major changes for Cassandre Beaugrand: ‘I’ve always followed my heart and owned my choices’

Cassandre Beaugrand was last year’s most successful Short Distance athlete – including wins at the Paris Olympics and the WTCS Grand Final in Torremolinos – but that doesn’t mean the French athlete will continue to do everything as she has in recent years. Beaugrand moves from England – where she has been living for two years – to Girona and joins team PTC, under the guidance of coach Glenn Poleunis.

Beaugrand says she mostly follows her heart and feelings in choosing to move to Girona. “It’s never easy to change something when it’s working so well, but I’ve always followed my heart and owned my choices. After the Olympics, I decided I needed some sun again and left the UK. The past two years have taught me so much about myself, both as an athlete and as a human. I’ve met so many amazing people, which made this decision even harder. It’s been tough at times, but I will always cherish the experience I’ve had.”

Of course Beaugrand also thanks Gavin Smith, the coach she was working with in England and with whom she thus achieved great success. “I could never have done all of this without Gav, and I think we can both be proud of what we’ve achieved together.”
